Built fast, rather than fixed later.
A new site built the way this one is — rendered to static files wherever that works, no framework a page does not need, and fast on a mid-range phone the day it ships rather than after someone is paid to optimise it.
The older half of the record: PHP, WordPress and React work going back to 2017, including a price-comparison platform built from scratch.
What that includes
- Static where it can be, dynamic only where it genuinely must be
- WordPress, WooCommerce or Shopify when you need to edit it without me
- React and Next.js when the thing is honestly an application, not a site
- Measured on a real phone before launch, not after a customer complains
Three ways to build it
This choice sets the cost, the timeline and who can change the site afterwards, so it gets made in the open rather than quietly on my end.
- Static, rendered ahead of time
- For a site that mostly shows things — pages, services, a portfolio, a form. Nothing to hack, nearly nothing to host, and fast without anyone tuning it later. This site is one.Right for most small business sites.
- WordPress, WooCommerce or Shopify
- For when you need to change the words on a Tuesday without waiting for me, or you are genuinely selling and want the checkout somebody else maintains.Right when editing it yourself matters more than the last 20% of speed.
- React or Next.js
- For when the thing is honestly an application — accounts, dashboards, a workflow with state — rather than a site with a login bolted onto it.Right least often, and I will say so before you pay for it.
Fast on the day it ships
Most sites are built first and made fast later, by someone else, for a second fee. That is the work on theperformance page — and a new build is the one chance to not need it. So the measurement happens before launch, on a real phone, against the same standard this page is held to: 24 KB over the wire and 0 bytes of JavaScript.
What I will not build
- A rebuild of a site that only needs fixing. If the bones are sound you will be told, and pointed at the cheaper job.
- A framework because it is fashionable. Every dependency is something that can break in a year, and you are the one who lives there.
- Something only I can maintain. You get the code, the hosting and the notes, whether or not you keep working with me.
